About EFCA GATEWAY

EFCA GATEWAY is a theological training program that uses guided independent study and cohort meetings to help students practically apply their gifts and learnings in ministry settings. Facilitated by EFCA-credentialed leaders, GATEWAY is an accessible training ground that helps equip the next generation of ministry leaders in local churches.

Who is GATEWAY for?

  1. Any current or future ministry leader who wants to grow in their understanding of the essentials of ministry leadership.
  2. Ministry leaders who desire a greater understanding of and alignment with the EFCA.
  3. Ministry leaders in qualifying roles who desire an ordered pathway to prepare for EFCA ministry credentialing.

Why GATEWAY?

  1. Many people with leadership gifts lack access to systematic, gospel-centered training. As a movement, our goal is to deepen engagement with leaders who would otherwise do ministry on their own. GATEWAY provides an invitation for leaders to be equipped for ministry and a pathway to pursue our shared mission together.
  2. Multiplying leaders know how to replicate what they have learned. We help you understand and organize your learning so it's ready to multiply in your context.
  3. Transformational leaders know why they believe what they believe. The process of personally wrestling through gospel truths from Scripture grounds you differently than just reading a list of takeaways.
  4. God made us for community. Learning in close relationship with others fosters a depth of learning that cannot be accomplished alone.
  5. Transformational churches need unified, equipped and interdependent leadership teams. Focused training in the EFCA essentials fosters a foundation that prepares a church to bring the gospel to all people.

What are the objectives of GATEWAY?

  1. Personal integration. Graduates can articulate and demonstrate the insights and practices they have gained, able to identify how God has transformed their heart through them.
  2. Servant-hearted practitioners. Graduates are servant-first in their ministry, embodying the humility of Jesus through personal, real-world action in their ministry and local community.
  3. Contextually aware ministers. Graduates apply theology in ways that honor all people, actively and wisely engaging the diversity in their communities for gospel unity.
  4. Multiplying diverse disciplemaking leaders. Graduates actively seek to equip others, taking a discerned special interest in discipling leaders of underrepresented populations.
  5. Cultivating collaboration. Graduates recognize the value of collaborative learning and cultivate spaces of communal learning that honor a multiplicity of perspectives.
  6. Seeking partners in the gospel. Graduates seek opportunities to come alongside any co-laborers in their community, for the good of their neighbors and the betterment of themselves.

What do students receive after completing GATEWAY?

Students who complete GATEWAY courses receive a certificate of completion, endorsed by EFCA Theology and Credentialing.

Participants who complete the program and serve in a qualifying ministry role are encouraged to apply for an EFCA Ministry License.

How do you get started?

Apply here to be matched with a Spanish, English or bilingual cohort.

Prospective participants are encouraged to attend a GATEWAY orientation if they believe the program is right for them. Course costs are paid after orientation.

GATEWAY’s course fee is $300. Students are also asked to purchase a couple of books.

We do not want GATEWAY’s cost to prevent participation. If the cost is a barrier, please inquire about scholarship opportunities during the application process.

How do I navigate GATEWAY course content?

GATEWAY courses use Moodle, a learning management system. Participants have access to an extensive Moodle orientation to help them navigate the online platform after they register. Additional technical help is available for participants after they start their cohort.

How does GATEWAY foster unity within the EFCA?

EFCA churches are united by shared convictions captured in the EFCA Statement of Faith and mission statement. Through facilitated community learning, GATEWAY strengthens our unity by deepening knowledge around shared convictions and established principles of biblical leadership.
